You don’t have to have a PhD to be curious about the world.
Loyal to the Soil
Where it started.
I have been educating the public about wildlife for the last 10 years in various outlets and have dabbled in wildlife filmography for the past 5 years. While I have had a passion for nature since I was "knee-high to a grasshopper” (according to my mom-mom), I wasn’t able to realize my dream of working for nature until I was 18. I first worked as a safari tour guide at a popular amusement park in New Jersey. It was there that I quickly learned something that would change my life forever: the attention span of the general listener grows exponentially when, instead of regurgitating factoids like a parrot, I served as a narrator, telling a story of which we all share a role.
Where it went.
This love of “the story” drove me to work three minimum wage jobs to afford a volunteer program where I could help take care of orphaned animals destined for release back into the wild in Zimbabwe. It led me to save my money from working at the Philadelphia Zoo and delivering pizzas, to get a diving license and explore the Great Barrier Reef first hand. It took me to Florida to work with rhinos, to Arizona to learn about sharks, to Maryland to work with chimps, elephants, penguins and many other birds. All in the pursuit of finding new and ever changing stories.
Where its at.
With that decade of stories under my belt I am looking to change my medium and combine my hard-won knack for public speaking with my filmography interests. My goal for this next chapter of conservation messaging is to learn how to effectively capture and narrate the intimacy of wildlife on camera. My goal is to become that translator who can help bridge the perceived gap between the general public and the natural world. I thank you all for coming on this journey together. Let’s take a look around!
